Welcome to my web site. I hope you enjoy the fine art photography images captured here. As a traditional landscape photographer, I offer a variety of black and white photographs (also known as silver gelatin photographs), as well as hand colored photographs (also known as hand tinted photographs or hand painted photographs). Born in Denver and a 5th generation Colorado native, there is great joy in being able to photograph the Colorado landscape. I truly feel what the sometimes elegant, sometimes harsh and forbidding Colorado environment is saying to me. These are the feelings that my photographs try to convey. I have also photographed quite a bit throughout the western U.S. The expansive sky and immense scenery are what the western frontier was, and the west still is, all about. Using a large format 4" x 5" Wista field camera allows the most meticulous details of my subject matter to be captured clearly. All processing, from the negative to the final print is done by hand. All of my black and white prints (as well as hand colored prints) are made on fiber based paper. Each print is hand-crafted one at a time. I do all my own matting and framing, and use only museum quality materials. All prints are signed and numbered limited editions. My hand colored prints are truly a labor of love. Although they, too, are signed and numbered limited editions, each one is completely unique. Color is applied with specially formulated oils as well as regular oil paints. Most pieces take between 6 and 12 hours to complete. Rather than moving into the digital era, I have chosen to run full speed into the past, making color photographs the way they were done 100 years ago! All work is meticulously hand crafted one at a time using only the finest and most durable materials. All finished prints are designed to be as archival and PH neutral as possible (this means they will last a very long time). I use only the highest 'museum' grade mounting and matting materials. VERY IMPORTANT My photographs are not primarily about where I've been. They are about what I see. They are meant to capture a feeling, and to convey that feeling to the viewer. How do you know you like an image? Although the answer is usually complex and completely subjective for each individual, one thing seems to manifest itself consistently. You can't seem to quit looking at the image! It is my artistic intention to capture you with my images. To capture your attention for a long enough time that, if only for a moment, your consciousness seems to escape into infinity. To capture your mind's eye and generate a feeling - - feelings of tranquility, of chaos, of love, peace, turmoil. That is what fine art is supposed to do. It is designed to cause you to interact with it. There is some brief descriptive information under each of the full size images. I don't get too wordy or flowery. I just want to supply some frame of reference for the photograph. And that gets me into the thought about titles. Both of my photographic mentors had considerable contact with Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Morley Baer, and a host of other west coast photographers. The pervasive 'theme' among these often philosophical individuals is one of general purism. That is to say that the image is everything. Titles can be relatively distracting. When you look at an image, you are interacting with it. When you look at a title in conjunction with viewing, you can be influenced by the title. Neither of my mentors formally title their pictures. We all may have titles we have given to our images for reference purposes. My titles are meant to be for reference purpose. Please do not let any of the titles distract you. And finally, please do not ask me to put any of my titles onto the mount board below the image. PLEASE ENJOY! EVERY IMAGE ON THIS WEB SITE IS MY COPYRIGHTED POSESSION AND NO DOWNLOADING OR OTHER COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT IS ALLOWED. |
